I have been studiously avoiding this classic book for a very long time. Written in 1959 by a depressed heroin addict, Naked Lunch lays out a hideous spread of random wild drug-fueled hallucinations that push the boundaries of even the most liberal minded readers. If you can manage to swim through the sick and grotesque imagery flooding this book, you'll find a strange kind of raw beauty gasping at the bottom of the swamp. But is it filth or great literature? Ultimately, you'll have to decide for yourself, but for me it was not a fun trip.
