A sequel that not only lives up to its predecessor, it might even improve on it. Wonderful complexity of character, relationships, setting, myth, magic, and language, with a story that is thrilling and an atmosphere that's alluring. It's both rich and accessible. I don't know why I waited so long to read it, only now I'm glad I did because the third book came in for me at the library a mere couple of hours after I finished this one. I'll be starting it immediately following my posting of this review during my commute home. Will Patton's audiobook reading, by the way, is a magnificent match for this series. He reads with understated, natural accent and voice distinctions between the characters and just the right amount of grit and edge to deepen the book's tone. Listening to him is a pleasure.
