This entire series of "Amelia Peabody books" is great! Strong, fascinating characters, with much detail about archaeology and British politics of the late 19th and early 20th century. The author (Barbara Mertz with pen name Elizabeth Peters) has a PhD in Egyptology and is the author of several popular series of fiction. The main characters in this series are fictional, the activities of the characters are "larger than life" in many instances, which makes them quite entertaining, but within a historical context that is quite true to life. See the book "Amelia Peabody's Egypt: A Compendium" for details on that context. (I enjoyed this series as hardback books.)
