It's okay to have freckles. It's okay to have two moms. It's okay to finish last. In "It's Okay to Be Different," Todd Parr teaches young children an important social lesson: differences merit celebration because they make each of us an individual. Every page of the book displays a person or animal with unique characteristics or feelings and the accompanying text begins with “It’s okay to...” This format allows for an exercise in which children think of and name additional differences. Solid primary colours form the background to each page and kid-friendly hand drawings help children relate while laughing at the artist's playful exaggeration.

Ultimately, Parr encourages acceptance of both oneself and others and boosts children's self-esteem.
