First in a new series by this author, who writes historical romances with "a modern wink". A light tone, engaging heroine, and facile resolution.
In some spots, DUCHESS BY DESIGN is wonderful -- the sassy Adeline, the fantastic chemistry of the leads as they dance around their attraction, the Gilded Age/NYC setting, the non-preachy way Rodale addresses the suffragette movement. But it's also set on so flimsy a problem, so easily solved, that the book suffers for it. We know the happy ending is coming, but there are no clever solutions getting us there.
Still, a fun read; light on the physical relationship between the leads, which will make readers looking for more chaste romances happy.
