Mark hates being the short, skinny guy. Bullies always pick on him and he can only like a girl from afar. Mark hopes that by the end of the summer, he’ll change. Then he sees an amazing movie called Star Wars! The movie influences Mark so much that he decides to make his own movie. But, how will Mark ever succeed without a budget? This is a perfect book to demonstrate how important it is to build your confidence and love who you are. Full of humor and heart, the graphic-novel format is the perfect package for Mark’s memoir as he tries to reach for the stars!
Really fun story good for most all ages. A comic book telling of a short and skinny boy being bullied and wanting to find a way out during the summer Star Wars was released. I would give the overall story and fun plot and characters a 4 or 5 stars, but the writing is not very crisp, witty or entertaining itself, it is pretty average. That lands the overall book at 3.5 stars to me. Still, I finished it the same day I got it from the library. It was a fun story and I wanted to know what happened next even if I had to push through some of the dragging dialogue and story-telling in a few places. It is a quick read as a comic, and worth the time in my opinion.
A funny and heart-felt, full-color graphic novel for kids about the summer the author discovered Star Wars.
Star Wars fans, old and new, will enjoy this coming-of-age graphic novel about middle-schooler Mark who longs to grow up (and bulk up). Luckily for Mark, the premier of the summer sensation "Star Wars" will encourage him to explore his creative side and discover a confidence he never knew he had.
