A Barbara Delinsky classic, first published in 1994, For My Daughters is a poignant and unforgettable story of the enduring power of love and the tenacious strength of family from the acclaimed New York Times bestselling author. Estranged sisters Caroline, Annette, and Leah St. Clair have spent their lives trying to escape the legacy of their wealthy, aloof, social-climbing mother, Virginia--each losing a certain part of herself in the process. Now, on the eve of her seventieth birthday, Virginia has asked them all to help her get settled into her magnificent new estate on the rocky coast of Maine, a request each sister reluctantly agrees to, thinking it may be her mother's last. But it is Virginia who has something to give to the daughters she neglected in childhood. For amid the glories of a New England summer, three sisters will finally learn the answers to the questions that have troubled them for years . . . and new truths that will stay with them forever.

Slow to get in to, but great exploration of emotions and plot!

I truly enjoyed this book and was sorry when it ended. I have two sisters myself (much larger age gap) and appreciated the interactions between the three of them especially since they have taken their own roads in life. The scenery/background is superb and I could almost feel the early morning mist.

Delinsky is a guilty pleasure for me. I like her way more than I ought to. This story of three sisters being "forced" to reconcile their lifelong differences because their mother manipulats them one last time by the simple expedient of not showing up is simply delicious. By focusing their anger on their mother, whom they've been taught was perfect, but with whom each has their own issues, forces them to deal with their own issues with each other. Very real sister story, I though. Leah and Jesse were a bit over the top, except as a reminder of where their mother had been decades before, and what she truly had given up for their happiness when they were not even born yet. Not a great book, but a worthwhile, fun one.
