I'm marooned. Abandoned. Left to rot in boarding school . . . Viola doesn't want to go to boarding school, but somehow she ends up at an all-girls school in South Bend, Indiana, far, far away from her home in Brooklyn, New York. Now Viola is stuck for a whole year in the sherbet-colored sweater capital of the world. Ick. There's no way Viola's going to survive the year--especially since she has to replace her best friend Andrew with three new roommates who, disturbingly, actually seem to like it there. She resorts to viewing the world (and hiding) behind the lens of her video camera. Boarding school, though, and her roommates and even the Midwest are nothing like she thought they would be, and soon Viola realizes she may be in for the most incredible year of her life. But first she has to put the camera down and let the world in.

From the moment I first "met" almost-fifteen-year-old Viola, I felt as though I were sitting in a big comfy chair, hearing about her unexpected friendships and first love (which she adorably kept me up to date on her romance scorecard; 3 kisses, one cookie, etc) at Perfect Academy. This is an inspirational book that people of all ages should love because it focuses on one thing; following your dreams and making them happen.

A refreshing story about a young teenager who must find her way at her new school. In Viola's eyes, Prefect Academy is so far away from her idealized Brooklyn/Manhattan world she knows that Indiana will never live up to her expectations. On her first day with camera in hand, she meets her roommates and has an unexpected encounter that impacts her school year. This line sums up the story... "It's like PA is filled with girls who have most of what they need in this world, but somehow, there's something missing, and it's like we were sent here to find it."

I'm thinking this might be one that Libby would enjoy. Kind of cute. Freshmen at a boarding school trying to figure out life away from home.

Fabulous tween/teen romance/chick lit. I love Viola and recommend this as a Sarah Dessen read-alike.
