This book was frustrating. The main character seems to operate in a world of allusions and hints, and expects the reader to follow along. Perhaps someone with a more thorough knowledge of the history of modern Israel would get more from this novel; much of it seems to be a thinly disguised satire of some of the political forces and decisions that have shaped that state. For the casual reader, this isn't a mystery or a thriller or anything easy to categorize. I finished the book because I started it but I didn't feel enlightened or satisfied at the end, just annoyed.
