Much better than the original Snow White fairy tale. Notice that the protagonist's half-sister is in Ella Enchanted, and that Ella herself is mentioned at the very end.

I love Gail Carson Levine books, and this book did not disappoint. If you like fairytale retellings done by the best, or liked any of Gail's other books, this book is definitely one to check out!

I loved this book. If you liked Ella Enchanted, this book is for you and it is even better. The author leaves you wanting to read more after each chapter and I read this book in 1 day because I could not get enough of it. Read this book!!!

I loved this book! I also checked out the audio book, which was okay. I loved the story, but the voice for Queen Ivi was really high pitched and squeaky. I liked reading the book better than listening to the audio book. I definetly recommend it!

Gail Carson Levine wrote an amazing fantasy book about a girl named Aza who has a melodic singing voice, and who uses her power to throw her voice for a queen with a terrible singing voice. Aza does this so that it seems like the queen has a beautiful singing voice. Aza calls this illusing. Unfortunately, Aza lives in a world where beauty is everything. Aza is considered to be ugly with her pale skin, and bright red lips, but no one realizes that true beauty comes from the heart. Aza is kind and her heart is full of love. After finding a magic mirror, she is asked to make a decision that can change her life forever. Everything has a price, but will Aza pay the price for something that is not right? Or will she sacrifice her dream for what is right? This was a great book full of fantasy and a mixture of other fairy tales. This book included a moral and would be very inspiring to anyone who believes that beauty is from the outside. This will help people realize that true beauty comes from the heart. This was a great book to read by a great author. I would definetely recommend reading this book! @Vanilla of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

Gail Carson Levine never fails to bring a new and improved twist on a mystical fairy tale. Fairest was no different. Mark my words, in a few years her books will be the next Grimm Fairy Tales! This story follows the tale of Aza, who is known for her beautiful voice and her ability to throw her voice so that the unmelodic queen can continue her reign. Unfortunately despite her talent, the land in which she lives only appreciates beauty and therefore she remains hidden behind the curtains. But one day, she finds a mirror that makes her the most beautiful maiden in all the land… but even beauty comes with a price she is not yet willing to pay. A wonderful mix of Snow White and the saying “be careful what you wish for”, this was my personal favourite in elementary school!

I absoulutely loved this book and I recommend this novel ages 10 and above. In the kingdom of Ayortha, there is a baby girl named Aza. But Aza is thoroughly convinced that she is ugly. What she may lack in looks, though, she makes up for with a kind heart, and with something no one else has, a magical voice. In Ontio Castle they attract the attention of a handsome prince and a dangerous new queen. The queen would do anything to be the fairest of them all! The message in this novel is that, "True beauty is within". Ijori is sweet because he loves Ava for what she looks like and what she is! I'm definitely going to read this book again.

So much potential wasted.

Aza is blessed with a wonderful family and beautiful voice. She lives in a kingdom where beauty and singing are the two most important pieces of a person. The only problem is that Aza isn't pretty. This is a good story about finding yourself and loving who you are. None of the characters in Fairest are perfect and several of them make very large mistakes but the character's interactions and redemptions are what make Fairest a good read.
