Whirlwind has a lot of high ratings so I can see I'm in the minority with my opinion of this book. I guess Whirlwind just wasn't my kind of book. There were a lot of storylines and I didn't feel as though any of the characters were fleshed out enough in order for me to really care about them. The graphic violence was too much for me, too. I liked Kate (the reporter) but I personally felt that the entire storyline about the Russian crime boss could have been left out.

I really thought this story was very engaging and read it in one day. It is a hard book to put down. A mother with two small children looses one of them during a tornado and the child end up kidnapped. Although the story might seem cheesy it was a fun read!
As a side note: this book was recommended by cbc's summer book panel as it is really perfect to read on vacation!
