But the fun stops the day Andy's dad, Paterson, New Jersey's legendary ex-D.A., drops dead in front of him at a game in Yankee Stadium. The shocks pile on as he discovers his dad left him with two unexpected legacies: a fortune of $22 million that Andy never knew existedand a murder case with enough racial tinder to burn down City Hall. The book is very good, the characters interesting and just complicated enough to keep you guessing, and the ''action" is pretty consistent with just a few of Rosenfelt's personal opinion lectures thrown in.
This is probably intended as a "man's" book, but the female characters are so well designed and so probable that I found it very appealing--plus did I mention the adorable, spoiled dog?

Number 1 in series

This is the beginning of a new reading relationship for me. Thoroughly enjoyable; I will definitely be following up with the subsequent novels by this author. There is a golden retriever in this story -- how can anyone say no to that! Great plot development, likable characters, and enough twists that putting the book down was almost impossible. I definitely wanted to keep turning the page!

A super quick and riveting read. I think I found a lawyer I really love!

This novel is the beginning of a great series! Andy Carpenter is a talented lawyer who also loves dogs. In this first story, he inherits a fortune from his dead father and has to sort out the truth about his father's life and death while defending a black man on death row. Wonderful characters and a dog that'll capture your heart.

Fast-paced who-dun-it. I will definitely be reading more "adventures" of quick-on-the-quip lawyer/"detective", Andy Carpenter. Very fun read.

I really like the character in this book and the way the author writes. There are more in the series and someday I'll check some more of the books out!
