The only things that save this movie are the appeal of Gregory Peck, and the gorgeous Sofia Loren.

Mid 1960's some really poor dialogue at times and an " just OK" sort of James Bond thriller type movie. Typical for its era.

I may have given this film one star more than it really deserves, but oh what the heck. I've always liked it and still do. "Arabesque" is not exactly "Charade," director Stanley Donen's 1963 classic, but it offers a droll Gregory Peck as a bewildered college professor drawn into a byzantine plot involving some Arabs chasing a formula on a microdot, and Sophia Loren at possibly her most exotically beautiful as the resourceful mistress of the main bad guy (the deliciously arch Alan Badel) who falls for Peck.

Loren doesn't have Audrey Hepburn's winsome vulnerability, but given what she does have (mid-sixties mod looks quite good on Sophia) it hardly matters. Peck lacks Cary Grant's comedic ease and flawless timing but he is stalwart and middle-aged handsome, and tosses off the one-liners with an appealing, awkward charm. I don't think either of them come close to Hepburn and Grant in terms of real chemistry, but they seem to get on well and it all translates reasonably plausibly.
Set in the swinging London of 1966; and Henry Mancini supplies the hummable score.
Worth your time.

One of my favorite movies. Peck and Loren are classic. Loren mis-prounounces too beautifully. Such delight, arabian style. Georgeous clothes and score.

possibly the worst dialogue ever written, or only seems that way spoken by a good actor like peck. Wince cringe unwatchable. Chemistry with Loren-- fun for him, waste of time for audience. Creepy zoo menagerie is also supposed to be exotic/sexy. Just creepy.
