First and foremost, the actor who does the reading of this Fitzgerald classic is incredible. He captures the essence of Amory aka FSF, from childhood to manhood. He captures the zeitgeist. He even sings, in warm tenor tones, the songs of the era.

The best thing about the novel is not the writing, even though FSF pushed narrative boundaries. What's most worthwhile are the insights into FSF's formative years, his thoughts about women and religion and Princeton clubs, the books he read, the poetry he wrote.

This volume offers much in the way of social and cultural history, of NYC and Princeton, and even of Minnesota.
