My thanks to Robert Spencer for this well researched and thoroughly referenced book. For those who have castigated this book, no valid counter argument is made concerning the subject at hand, that being, Mohammed and his life. “If it's the truth, it doesn't matter who says it”. As for the Bible verses, that is history, brutal as it is and no one is denying that...the Koran, Sirah and Hadith, on the other hand, have prescriptive demeaning and violent measures in the Shariah, extending to the present day, to be visited on the kafir, non-Muslim.
that is curious as to why the library is carrying a book by a known polemic with an axe and agenda to grind.

Well researched book. Enlightening and revealing. A must read for intelligent minds concerned with the truth, including honest and good muslims. The book includes facts about Mohammed that cannot be ignored.
Just a hate speech , should not be in the library
The Qur'an is mild and gentle compared to the Bible. In the Old Testament, Jehovah orders the Hebrews to exterminate the peoples of Canaan (Palestine). Moses, Joshua, and Samuel enforce the genocide. Saul is rejected for sparing one Amalekite after killing all the rest. David is praised for slaying tens of thousands. Jeremiah declares, "[C]ursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood." (Jer 48:10)
Jews still celebrate Passover and the extermination of the Egyptian firstborn (Exodus 11), as well as Purim and the massacre of 75,800 Persians. "Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them." (Esther 9:5)
Moses also massacres dissenting Hebrews: "Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor." (Exodus 32:27)
In long, hysterical tirades filled with venomous curses, Moses threatens fiendish tortures for Hebrews who disobey any of his innumerable regulations, eg Leviticus 26, Deuteronomy 28.
Elijah slaughters 450 Hebrew prophets of Baal: "And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there." (1st Kings 18:40)
Inspired by these examples of tolerance, American/Israeli Christians and Jews have ravaged several Muslim populations, wrecking the lives of countless millions. Author Spencer mentions none of this.
Hate speech against an identifiable group. I cannot believe that Edmonton Public Library has this in their collection.
Robert Spencer is very courageous to provide us this information in this informative book considering the threats someone shining light on Islam is subject to. You of course, can also read the Koran or the Hadiths to check what Spencer is saying. (I read the al-Bukhari hadith, for example, and it clarified for me that jihad is in fact not an internal struggle but making war.) Islam is a set of beliefs. It isn't a race or an ethnic group. An other commenter calls him a bigot. (def:a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.) I would say under this definition the commentor is a bigot. I'm glad the library keeps intellectual inquiry alive.
Here's to his "scholarship" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ahmed-rehab/the-islam-basher-and-the_b_231127.html
The book is primarily a historical review that includes quotes of Islamic writings that, sad to say, confirm the aggressive and imperialistic nature of the religion. That's a tough pill to swallow nowadays. The author quotes from the Qu'ran texts and Hadith that speak for themselves. Thus there is no need for him to go into long commentaries ... which he doesn't. The reader can draw his own conclusions. The book is likely to offend Muslim apologists on the basis that it is written by a white American, so for a similar analysis read "Why I am not a Muslim" by Ibn Warraq, or ' A God Who Hates' by Wafa Sultan, which cannot be similarly dismissed. Surely if these Arab ex-Muslims address the violence and sexism inherent in Islam, isn't there a real problem to be addressed without labelling writers as bigots? Interestingly, Spencer does not take the standard cheap shot at Muhammed for marrying a 9 year old girl, since it was a common practice in that culture at that time, but he criticizes present day Muslim states that allow the practice today justifying the practice as 'following Muhammed's conduct.'
I can only give the book 3 stars though, because one does have to refer to a copy of the Qu-ran to double check Spencer's quotes, given his reputation.
