My favourite book on ADD. Readable, informative, and so clearly identifies the challenges and the advantages of the ADD brain. If I could recommend only 1 book to those struggling with ADD, or to parents whose kids have ADD, this would be it. A great read!
only read about 3 chapters so far but one of the best books i've read about ADD. had a doctor tell me they cant put me on medication cause im not goin to school and i dont have a job. WTF? theirs times where i forget to feed my dog. i always end up remembering but still makes me feel horrible. i cant even remember what i did last week either. this book lets me know im not the only one who forgets stuff this much. very good book
I have read about a half dozen books on ADHD and this is by far the best.
As an adult with newly diagnosed attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [inattentive type], this is the most powerful book I've read in my lifetime. ~ Adrienne
DELIVERED from DISTRACTION
By Ed Hallowell
Review by Keith Kawamura:
"Delivered from Distraction" is an excellent follow-up to “Driven to Distraction,” by the same author. It contains helpful information on nutrition (i.e. omega-3 fatty acids), tips for those married to a partner with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), and discussion of cutting edge therapies (i.e. Cerebellar Stimulation) which may prove to be effective to reduce ADD symptoms. The easy to read format of “Delivered from Distraction” has those with ADD in mind: short chapters; funny stories, and charm. It even has a self-grading quiz to use as a screening tool. You or someone you know can review the results with a doctor. The physician can then administer standardized tests to diagnose if that person fits the DSM IV (Diagnostic Statistical Manual, 4th edition) criteria for ADD. Ed Hallowell’s 2005 book also has many helpful resources with catchy titles covering subtopics in the book (i.e. How to Get Organized Without Resorting to Arson: a Practical Guide to Clearing Your Desk without Resorting to Flames.) Overall, this is a comprehensive, compassionate, and easy to read resource for those who need help in dealing with the troublesome but, not insurmountable, challenges of ADD.
Informative, sensible, easy to understand. Expert, but also warm and personable. This is the best all-round book on the subject that I've found.
