Loved it, have seen this several times, this keeps you on the edge of your seat off and on and I loved the entire movie overall.
Apparently, John Krasinski has never heard of socks.
Also, the whole drowning in a grain silo, that old chestnut? The Dressmaker did it better.
A good-looking movie with nicely rendered CGI aliens and an incredibly stupid premise, i.e. that humanity has been virtually wiped out by giant spider-like creatures from Parts Unknown that (a) can easily be killed with firearms (e.g. a shotgun), (b) are blind, (c) possess no sense of smell, and (d) are instinctively drawn to sounds like moths to a flame. They obviously could easily be completely eradicated by the equivalent of a sound-driven bug light. The "alien weak spot" (a well-worn trope in alien invasion flicks since "War of the Worlds") is that high-frequency sounds disable them... obviously stolen from "Mars Attacks", which did it better and funnier. Definitely two-thumbs down for anyone who enjoys good, intelligent science fiction.
The only thing horrifying about this movie is the number of plot holes it contains. I found the characters' actions completely lacking in plausibility, and the "rules" of the unnamed entities that terrorized them followed no scientific or internal logic.
I have a lot of thoughts about this movie, but surely I can say that this is one of my favorite movie absolutely amazing. In fact that this movie directed by John Krasinski one of the main character in this movie with his wife Emily Blunt who also starred in the film, they definitely had great chemistry on screen together so it is kinda interesting because despite being a horror movie, this film also is very wholesome and has a lot of heart. You can tell that this film is a very personal for them where the family bind is the core of the story that this two parents do whatever it takes just to survive with their children. Overall the movie is well made it has lots of suspense throughout the movie and the characters are amazing. 5/5 Stars. @moviefanatic of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
I read somewhere that Paul Thomas Anderson hosted a screening for this. So I was intrigued. (Also, who doesn't like Emily Blunt and John Krasinksi?) Sadly, this is just another ALIEN ripoff, with the silence thing the one interesting tweak.
Some scary/suspenseful parts but really not that good. No back story about the creatures and how it started. Just a weird film. The actors themselves were good but the story left a lot to be desired.
Good movie. Enjoyed the premise and the fact that there was no wasted time throughout.
A masterpiece. Must be seen by all horror movies fans
Too sad. Don't care for movies with children at risk and lost. Starts out sad, continues and ends sad except last few minutes. Acting good but movie slow.
The only problem (it's not really a problem) is the silence. We're not used to that in most movies now-a-days, there's usually a lot of noisy music so loud you can barely hear what's going on in the movie. This whole movie depends on not making a sound. If you do the aliens will find you and they're not pretty. Great performance by Emily Blunt, who has to go through labor without making a noise, and John Krasinski. Some very tense moments. All in all a good movie though, we enjoyed it.
Who knew that John Krasinski would do such a good job on this? Horror movies are not really my thing, but although this movie was very eerie, it seemed more like a suspense/thriller to me. The film did contradict itself and there is still some explaining to be done, but not too bad. I loved Emily Blunt and John Krasinski in this. Definitely worth watching more than once.
Far better than your average horror movie. Truly scary, probably because of the silence aspect. Different, which is why we liked it.
Clever unique scary movie. Won't say anything more to avoid spoilers.
Also cool to see a celebrity couple successfully working together while remaining happily married - refreshing Hollywood non-drama.
Plot holes as big as monster gashes. Totally unbelievable. At the same time it was still scary and evocative of other situations in which people had to be silent or be found and killed. And the acting was very good.
Stupid movie, waste of time Fast forwarded through whole thing.Thought would be better because of married acting couple, just boring.Absouelty no stars given.Do not watch.
Different. Well acted.
It's a lot better, than you might expect.
Gripping. Terrifying. A survival tale with teeth. This one is a watch again...and again...and again.
I enjoyed this one! If you enjoy reading subtitles this one is for you! Very dramatic and gripping.
This was an excellent movie that may well become a classic. They took some risks. There are lots of subtitles because the actors must speak in sign language to survive in a world of predators with supersonic hearing. Also, the gore factor is quite mild. People who like scary movies and are expecting alot of blood are going to be disappointed. The terror, however, is palpable and sustained throughout the film and the acting is fully believable. I'm not going to give it away but the end of the movie is super satisfying!
We really enjoyed this movie. I never expected to enjoy it as much as I did. Yes there were some plot holes, but it was well acted and suspenseful (Good job John K!). Also a pleasant surprise not be inundated with gore and profanity.
It’s a horror film, I guess. But it was amazing to me how much was acted through facial expressions. Now that’s way cool. To not be able to scream, laugh, cry is exhausting. And the family bond. The creatures were icky and added the scary dimension of who it was that was listening.
