Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a tough little cookie and an amazing woman. Men and women both owe her a lot. A crusader for justice and true equality, she is a champion, a rock star even. This book gives the reader a fascinating glimpse into her life and what the woman is really like.
Fascinating and inspirational, this book is also the basis for the excellent film "RBG".
I found that this book worked best for me when discussing Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life. I liked it less when RBG’s legal decisions were read. If I had been reading the book instead of listening to it, I could have skimmed those bits and felt better about spending my time. I did check out the book afterwards and realized that I was missing a lot in not seeing the illustrations.
I knew Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Notorious RBG) was a Supreme Court Justice, but I had no idea about her years of work for women's right and ending outdated gender norms and discrimination, her struggle to earn a law degree and to be respected for her work just like the boy lawyers, and helping to elevate others in their law careers. I loved reading about her public and private life and her happy marriage of equality with Marty Ginsburg. If you want to learn more about the woman behind the black robes and signature lacy jabots, this biography is easy and fun to read, has lots of pictures, and samples of her famous well-written court cases and dissents.
Prior to picking up 'Notorious RBG,' my limited knowledge of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her work extended more or less to an awareness of a tiny, venerable woman currently serving as a Supreme Court Justice. I knew nothing about her personal history, her achievements in opening doors for women in the legal arena or the valuable work she has done in her 25 years as a judge on the highest court in the country. I'm at once encouraged, amazed and endlessly appreciative. Highly recommended for anyone, but would make an especially inspiring and readable biography for teens.
NOTORIOUS RBG is a fascinating tribute to the extraordinary Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, champion of gender equality and civil rights who became a pop culture phenom and sparked the catchphrase, “Can’t Spell Truth without Ruth.” The book offers snapshots of her life and career with annotated excerpts from her briefs, opinions, and dissents on key cases. Here the legal vocabulary dragged a bit for me, but these sections were short and the comments helped my understanding. All this is balanced with personal photographs, illustrations, and little known trivia about this extraordinary woman. She loves opera, does not cook or drive, had a surprising friendship with fellow Justice Antonin Scalia, and as an octogenarian can still do 20 push-ups! The section about her 56-year marriage to her beloved Marty is notably touching (handkerchief recommended). But ultimately it is her incredible work ethic, intelligence, and words (see Quotes) that inspire me and others to advocate for justice in our society and country. Carry on RBG!
I learned so much about RBG and what she has fought for and believes in and I would recommend this book to anyone who can appreciate a badass woman. In fact she could probably bench press me under a table. Could not recommend this book more! 1000 stars out of 10.
I read this while everyone else was playing on the beach. It was better than whatever anyone else was doing. It may not be for everyone but it was the best thing I've read for a long time. A touching, humorous, informative book on one of our greatest minds. Don't you love a bright star with humble beginnings?
This was a seriously disappointing tribute to a phenomenal justice. It was neither particularly readable (filled with complex legal language) nor engaging. Look for My Own Words for a better picture of this remarkable woman. A lover of language, and student of Vladimir Nabokov at Cornell University, her life should read in her own fine words.
If you don't know who Ruth Bader Ginsburg is, you are missing out. She has been a GIANT in the women's rights movement, but not only has she been making life better for females, she is making this world a better place for EVERYONE! Originally I thought this might be a difficult read, with a lot of legal jargon, but I was struck, page after page, by how much RBG's passion is woven into everything she does.
Staunch: adjective. 1. Very loyal and committed. 2. Of sturdy construction. This is RBG. And this is a wonderfully creative book about her. A must read for anyone who cares about equality for all and RBG's mission to make it happen.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg is fascinating and amazing and so interesting to read about. I also loved the art and photos throughout, the annotated decisions, and the other small but interesting details peppered throughout the book. Read this because we have a national treasure on our Supreme Court right now, and you may think you know how great she is, but this book will school you.
The format of this book is nearly as fun and interesting as "RBG" herself!
If you love Ruth Bader Ginsburg (and who doesn’t?!), then you’ll love this book. While she is most known for her judicial career, Ruth Bader Ginsburg has a lot of fascinating things going on in her life. The book describes her wonderful marriage to Marty Ginsburg, her strong friendship with Scalia, her workout routine, and her thoughtful and sometime scathing judicial rulings. This book is a great look at a true trailblazer, and someone who always fights for what she believes in.
I read the book about Sandra Day O'Connor and RBG (Sisters in Law) on the court. Loved it. This book did not give me the same joy and satisfaction. In fact a lot of it was BORING.

I really loved this book; and of course I love the subject, Ruth Bader Ginsburg = the Notorious RBG! What a wonderful and inspiring role model she is for all of us. I found this book to be a fun, easy read with some great graphics/artwork, photos & quotes interspersed throughout the book; they highlight the internet & social media phenomenon she's become (in these past couple of years) for younger generations who are finding out who she is & what she's given to our country. Though this book has a certain light feel to it, the content...her actual story and what's she's achieved and influenced in her lifetime is serious as all get-out! Pick up this grand nod to a very important figure for not only women in this country but for everyone who believes in equality & justice for all.
