"Land Girls" is a British series about girls who go to work on a farm during WW2. The mistress of the farm is a total uppity snobby jealous woman who abuses her staff & the girls. Her husband, of course, cheats on her with one of hired farm girls. There is the usual drama involving woman & serveral plot twists are envitable. The wife gets her just desertss in the , the husband suffers & the farm girls end up all the right. Justice is served.

Compelling comedy/drama/adventure/romance of the WWII girls who worked the farms while the men were away fighting the war. Those who have trouble understanding their speech need English 101 in audio because it is not difficult to understand. 9 out of 10

Good luck with your copy. The copy I got doesn't work on my computer, and there are no closed captions, so about 1/3 of the dialogue is beyond me. Not a riveting series, but not bad either. It does feature "normal" people, only one attractive woman and only one presentable male (Inspector Lindley star) and you have to appreciate that. However, after Call the Midwife one expects better of a BBC production in terms of creating endearing characters.

Considering the noble proclamations of sacrifice, I expected something touching and compelling ( Especially considering the excitement in other reviews). Instead this was a performance of mediocrity with atrocious acting.
I couldn't watch past the second episode.

I watched two episodes in season one before I decided that this story wasn't that compelling...if you're going to waste time watching a show - there are better shows.
Disclaimer: I don't like Downton Abby either, so you can gauge from there.

I love this! I just finished the third season and am disappointed that there isn't more. Think Downton Abbey meets All Creatures Great and Small.

Unfortunately, no closed captioning nor any subtitles.
I found this series enjoyable nonetheless.

Enjoyed this continuing saga. Wish there was a little more in the way of explanation of the disappearance of some of the characters. I thought the singing bits well done. Guess that means I like cotton candy (:

Award Winning Program (BBC) drama set during the Second World War with Nathaniel Parker and Sophie Ward. I fought this series (Series 1 of 3) enjoyable. Looking forward to Series 2 of 3. Entertaining!

NO ENGLISH SUB TITLES!
NO CLOSED CAPTIONING!
Three reasons why such are necessary:
1. Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing need them.
2. Viewers with other than English as a primary language need them.
3. Viewers (Canadian-born or other) with English as a primary language may have a problem with some of the regional accents of the United Kingdom.
Just saying.

There is a BBC DVD series called Land Girls
But certain discs seem to be missing from some sets.
For example I saw the first three episodes of set 1
but episodes 4 and 5, apparently on a third disc, were missing.

a bit disappointing - British drama usually is high quality - but this show is lacking dimensions, characters are boring and flat, neither here or there. Could have skipped this series all together.

What a load of drivel. One-dimensional characters, too modern writing and ways of thinking. Just goes to show that not everything the BBC produces is worth the money, unfortunately.

It was great to see the second series did not drift away from what started as a great first series. This was really enjoyable.

Very similar, in both style and complexity, to the first season, which is to say that they haven't lost anything. Convoluted plotting and story lines, following the lives of the whole estate. Some victories, and some utter tragedies. A great "relationship" series, although the individual stories don't seem to matter much.

Excellent drama. Well written and well performed by a strong cast with great attention to detail in the production to achieve a thoroughly credible authenticity. Involving storylines and believable characters. Highly recommended.

Interesting story about the Land Army which until recently I knew very little about. This miniseries was commissioned by the BBC to honour the 70th anniversary of the start of WW2. I guess I wanted this to be more than it was or something...I didn't find any of the characters particularily sympathetic or engaging.

Interesting mini-series from the Second World War, that of the Women's Land Army, moving from the cities to work on farms for the war effort. The writing and acting isn't particularly stellar, but the overall picture is an intriguing one.
