Literally one of the best books I have ever read in my life, and believe me, I've read a lot of books AND I'm fairly picky.
As a general rule, I don't like biographies, but Allie is so witty and brutally honest about herself, life and the world that I was in stitches and almost falling off my couch from laughter.
I think EVERYONE should read this book, it's wonderful, honest and ridiculously hilarious. Actually, it's just ridiculous in general, but that's part of its charm.
Allie tackles heavy topics such as depression, identity and childhood memories with a level of satire, honesty and sarcasm that is seldom found in books.
Amazingly, this book does not contain a single fart joke or raunchy sex joke. The humor is strange, but appealing and it doesn't fall back on standard juvenile tropes.
Read this book. Please. It will make your life better.Literally one of the best books I have ever read in my life, and believe me, I've read a lot of books AND I'm fairly picky.

Literally in the top five books I have ever read, and believe me, that's saying something. I've read a lot of books and I'm pretty hard to impress.
This series, however, is one of the most beautifully constructed tales I have ever had the joy of reading. The pacing is well done and the way that the author sets the mood with the eerie, apprehensive atmosphere is genius.
The characters are memorable and unique and I found myself tearing up when I finished the series. A great gift for just about any age, although because of the content writing style, I'd recommend it for 12 and up.
The series is imaginative and well-planned with plenty of twists, turns and mysteries.
The use of real vintage photos throughout the book is quite unique and an absolutely genius idea that grants the story a haunting, eerie edge.
The lore of the peculiars is well thought out and the overall atmosphere of the book is wonderful.
I must also commend the author for his writing style. It's very poetic and beautiful without being preachy or pretentious and I think that this story can appeal to tweens, teens and adults alike.
The messages are positive, the character struggle with right and wrong and I find myself wanting to re-read this over and over.
DISCLAIMER: Please, please, PLEASE read the series before you watch the recently released movie. The movie is EXTRMELY unfaithful to the books and it changes a lot of the characters' powers, ages and relationships.
One thing that I must say bugs me quite a bit is the fact that the main love interest (Emma) is described and shown as being a brunette and not exceptionally pretty in the books is portrayed by a platinum blonde, model-pretty actress in the movies.
I mean...really? Do we REALLY need ANOTHER blonde, gorgeous actress with large amounts of makeup? This isn't to say that she didn't do a good job, because she did and she captured Emma's personality fairly well as well as her relationship with Jacob, but I think the movie would have significantly better had they cast someone with brown hair and brown eyes to play Emma.
Overall, a wonderful series and a pretty good movie. So long as I treat the movie as a sort of parallel universe from the books, I can enjoy it quite a bit.Literally in the top five books I have ever read, and believe me, that's saying something. I loved this book when I was younger, but upon re-reading it, I realized that it's got a few flaws. The writing style is somewhat simplistic and the author sort of expects you to just accept things in the fantasy land of Komondor without any explanation. The writing is not terribly clever and the art style for the illustrations does not match the book very well. I'm also miffed at the fact that they say the Komondorians are in a 'manga' style, the illustrations of them are done by someone who does not seem to be very well acquainted with Manga and Anime.
That being said, The Amulet of Komondor is not a bad book. In fact, when I was middle school aged, I quite enjoyed it. After abut 14, it's not a great book though.
A 12 year old who's into fantasy will probably think it's awesome, but I'm afraid I can't give the book the reverence I used to.I loved this book when I was younger, but upon re-reading it, I realized that it's got a few flaws. This book is truly amazing. Dash and Lily are wonderful, fleshed-out characters with realistic lives. The contrast between their personalities is stark and interesting, and the book is paced nicely as well.
I felt that I was really able to relate to the characters, and being a teenager myself, I found that they were written to be true to their ages.
I was feeling really down, depressed, actually, and then I read this book. It really struck a chord with me and brought me some laughter as well as hope.
It's a christmas miracle in a non-syrupy way, an 'against all odds, it worked out' story that actually feels real.
This is now one of my all-time favorite books, and I absolutely reccomend it for any time of year. This book is truly amazing. Dash and Lily are wonderful, fleshed-out characters with realistic lives. A lot of people-judging by the comments-seem to think that this is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
IT IS NOT.
This book is Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, and it is a little known sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. While all the Disney-fied movies are nice, nothing-and I mean NOTHING-can compare to the witty, imaginative writing of Roald Dahl's original books.
Not a lot of people seem to know about this book, as it is seldom mentioned and has not been made into a movie. It is just a wonderful-if not better than-the original and I highly recommend it if you liked the first one.A lot of people-judging by the comments-seem to think that this is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

As a general rule, I don't like dogs. Not one bit, I am a cat lover and PROUD OF IT, so naturally I didn't think I'd like this book very much. I was so wrong. Call Of The Wild is simply beautiful. Though it is told in third person past-tense, you can really feel the dog, Buck speaking to the reader, his thoughts clearly displayed with wonderful accuracy though the pages.
Oh yes, the pages. The main reason I don't read a lot of classics is that I am turned off by the length. Sorry, but I don't have time to read 400 pages of THE SAME BOOK.
This book is less the a hundred pages, and yet covers years of Buck's life very accurately.
The writing is a bit old fashioned, but that is to be expected, and it is certainly a classic that has aged well.
I am a younger teenager and I greatly enjoyed this book. I don't like dogs, I'll say it again, but the book isn't so much about dogs as about animals as a whole.
Call Of The Wild is a beautiful story, easily read in one sitting or two, and, surprisingly, has become one of my favorite books. As a general rule, I don't like dogs. This is an excellent book, spiked with romance, but filled with enough action to keep it interesting. Its narrative is thrilling, and it brings a fresh new perspective to the classic zombie novel.
